NOTE: Mr. Hampton is NOT a direct relative. (He is the father of Minnie Lee Hampton, who was the fourth wife of my 2nd great grandfather, Elisha Crew.) I was simply interested in locating some information about him, his wives and their children. A simple “timeline” is what I’ve provided below. The records I found are mentioned below and where they can be located if one wishes to see them, but I have not sourced them to any genealogical standard.

Grave marker gives date as 8/22/1834 [22 August 1834]. Death certificates states his age as "81 years, 3 days". Calculation based on this information would mean he was born 25 March 1834. Also, his place of birth is listed on all census records as Tennessee. His death certificate lists his place of birth as Alabama.
Marriage: 1 October 1860 in Obion County, Tennessee to Mary Catherine Wood

There is also a Union card with the name "W.F. Hampton". It reads " W. F. Hampton, Pvt. Co. G, 4 Reg't Tennessee Infantry. Appears on RETURNS as follows: Mar 1864 - On fatigue duty loading & unloading RR cars. Dec 1864 - Absent sick Dec 7/64"

Mary dies sometime after enumeration day of 1 June 1870. (Actual enumeration date was 6 June 1870.) and his remarriage in December of 1874. Also, the family has moved from Missouri to Texas in the intervening years.
Marriage: 9 December 1874 in Travis County, Texas to R. M. Harris

R.M. Harris is Rebecca Mollie Adams. She was married to Mr. unknown Harris and her son is listed in the 1880 census as Mr. Hampton's step-son.

Margaret is Margaret Ellen Carver. She was married at least once prior to marrying Mr. Hampton.
